Advising Information
Freshman students and transient students (those not seeking a degree at UMHB) will be advised through the Center for Academic Excellence for their first semester's registration. For all following registrations, freshman students who have declared a major will be advised by a faculty member in the department of their major and freshman students who are undecided about their major will be advised by their Freshman Seminar professor until they declare a major. Bachelor of Professional Studies students and all other students who are undecided about their major will be advised by Dr. Kat Early (if last name begins with A-L), Dr. Edwin Armstrong (if last name begins with M-Z), or Carolyn Owens (if seeking post-baccalaureate teacher certification). All additional students will be advised by a faculty member in the department of their major.
Student Responsibilities:
- Set up an appointment time with your advisor.
(NOTE: Some advisors may use MyCampus to send you a meeting notice.) - Prepare for the meeting. a. Verify your personal information.
b. Verify your degree information.
c. Review your degree plan.
d. Check for holds on your student account. (If you have holds, you cannot register.)
e. Develop a tentative schedule for yourself. - Attend your advising meeting.
a. Discuss your course selection with your advisor.
b. Verify the courses you are interested in will apply to your degree plan.
c. When the meeting is completed, your advisor will grant you registration clearance in MyCampus. - Get registered!
New Students: Obtain a completed, signed advising form from your advisor. Bring the completed, signed advising form to the Office of the Registrar during regular registration. (Note: When the Registrar's Office enters your classes into the registration system, your seat in the class has been saved.)
Returning Students: Obtain registration clearance from your advisor for each term for which you wish to register. Register online via MyCampus. If you prefer to register in person, please have a tentative schedule (course numbers) ready when you come to the Registrar's Office.
